Campers who visit Camp Agnes Arnold will enjoy the different types of units throughout the camp. Girls can stay near the water in the Fishing Village, up near the treetops in the Treehouses, or nestled in the middle of camp in tents, yurts or cabins.

Session Descriptions

Flower Power: Welcome to Camp Agnes Arnold! This is a great introductory session for younger girls who are not quite ready for a full camp session. Campers will have the opportunity to canoe on Shadow Lake, learn camp songs, play games, roast s'mores over a camp fire, make crafts and enjoy plenty of swimming.

Bakin' Brownies: Mix it, pour it, bake it, love it! A tasty session for campers to make some favorite outdoor cooking treats. Campers will learn to cook their own meals, mix tasty camp snacks and enjoy yummy desserts! Swimming, crafts and other fun activities round out the week for our little chefs.

Brownie Boater: Shadow Lake holds many exciting secrets that can be discovered while paddling on the lake. Girls will gain the experience of basic canoeing techniques, forward and backward strokes and work with their friends to travel the lake waters. Here's your chance to unravel the mysterious legends of Shadow Lake while working toward your Brownie Boater Card.

Brownie Quest: This awesome session brings the best of Brownie Magic straight to Camp Agnes Arnold. Spend the week working on crafts, learning songs, and playing games all geared toward Brownie. Between the Brownie fun, girls may participate in other camp activities such as a nature walk with their friends or swimming in our awesome pool.

Firelight & Fairytales: If you like eating s'mores, singing songs, playing games, swimming, cooking outside, hiking and listening to fairytales - then Camp Agnes Arnold is the place for you! Other activities can include fishing, making arts and crafts, canoeing, shooting archery and working toward Brownie try-its.

Little Mermaid: This session is for campers who love to splish 'n' splash while swimming, canoeing and playing water games. When you're not in the water, other traditional camp activities like camp fires, arts and crafts, songs and games will be enjoyed.

Messy Munchkins: Be prepared for lots of fun and lots of showers, as you make human s'mores, participate in the human tie-dye experiment, learn to grease bicycle chains, and more! (Bring extra soap ... you'll need it!) Of course, when you're not too slimey, you can also take a dip in the lake, try your hand at some new crafts, go on a hike, or search for Hipper eggs.

Short and Sweet - B1: A fun session for the first time Brownie camper or for girls not quite ready for a full camp session. Campers can try canoeing on Shadow Lake, hiking, games, camp fires, crafts and plenty of swimming. This session is from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening.

Splish Splash: Cool off this summer with a watery wonderland! Enjoy aqua-aerobics, water volleyball, swimming, water slides, and more! Girls will work toward the Water Everywhere Try-It.

Teddy Bear Picnic: Build your own teddy bear, then join Hipper and friends for a picnic on Shadow Lake! Hike the trails to Thumper's Pond, take a canoe out for a paddle, or enjoy music and dancing with your new furry friend.

Want to be a Princess?: Let the dazzle begin! Feel like a princess as you dress up in your favorite costume - or choose one of our sparkling outfits! Have fun with new hair styles, tea parties, fashion parades and dancing. And of course, even royalty needs to take a break for swimming, crafts, or archery!

Weird Science: Do you like measuring, mixing, pouring and ooey, gooey fun? Our little scientists will create their own inventions such as silly putty, slime, bubbling solutions and foamy fun! When you're not making new discoveries, enjoy activities such as swimming, canoeing, arts and crafts or visiting Thumper's Pond to learn about the Magic Elf.

Animal Adventure: Are you an animal lover? Join us for this session and learn everything there is to know about your pet. Take a trip to a local animal shelter to visit your four legged friends and learn how to care for them. You'll also complete a First Aid course for animals. Between activities, girls can fill their day with other camp activities such as swimming, arts and crafts or a nature hike.

Cheer and Dance: This is a fun, creative session for wouldbe cheerleaders. Work with instructors to choose music and create your own dance routines, then perfect your skills during the week in preparation for the end of camp talent show. Round out your camp experience with other activities such as swimming, archery and campfires.

Curtain Call: Do you like to dress up, act and be the star on center stage? The Agnes Arnold theatrical production needs you! Construct sets and prepare costumes, rehearse roles and apply stage make-up. Offstage, enjoy activities such as swimming, hiking, or arts and crafts. Places everybody! ... 3, 2, 1 action! Girls will work toward the Theater Badge.

Harriet Potter: Try your own kitchen chemistry, potions and magic this week! Mix your ingredients, wave your magic wand and explore the world of science and magic. Top off the week with a game of Quidditch - Camp Agnes Arnold style! Campers will work on the Making it Matter Badge and choose other activities such as swimming, canoeing, archery and arts and crafts to round out the week.

Hike, Bike and Canoe: There's no better way to see Camp Agnes Arnold! Grab a helmet and take a ride around the Magic Elf Trails. Learn about bike maintenance and safety rules and join the bicycle rodeo at the end of the week. When you're not biking, paddle a canoe around Shadow Lake then hike some of the many trails that Camp Agnes Arnold has to offer. Want more? How about swimming, archery, arts and crafts, or campfires? Expect a super week full of fun and traditional camp activities and patriotic fun!

Junior Olympian: Get ready for the Camp Agnes Arnold Olympics! Develop personal skills and team work by joining in a variety of waterbased and land games throughout the week. With an emphasis on fun and team spirit, girls can sample volleyball, soccer, archery, canoeing, swimming, bicycling, and more as they work toward the Sports Sampler Badge.

Junior Paddler: Practice the basic skills of flat water canoeing while completing the Small Craft Badge. Once you've mastered the small canoes, add a little face paint and try out your skills by maneuvering the 30-foot war canoes! Finally, round out the week learning to kayak on Shadow Lake! Girls will work toward earning the Paddler Card and complete an Introduction to Paddling course, weather permitting.

Master Minds: You've seen our STEM activities in The Golden Link, now come live it! This session combines the best of science, technology, engineering and math, and we promise it will be a blast. Participate in a forensics workshop where you'll get a behind the scenes look at fingerprints and extract your own DNA samples. Try your hand at chemistry and take a guess at how to remove corrosion from old coins or learn about robots! This exciting session is rounded off with a selection of crafts, games and swimming.

Owl Prowl: Are you a night owl? Sleep late every morning, and explore camp during the midnight hours while other campers sleep. Enjoy late night swims and hikes, roast s'mores, tell stories around the campfire and visit the lodge for some late night activities.

Pioneer Days: Step back in time and experience life as one of the first settlers. Learn how to make candles, design a quilt block, spin wool, dye fabric, care for a horse, and create your own toys. Our pioneers will be busy this week, but they'll still find time for outdoor cooking and a dip in the pool.

Water Frolic: Stay cool during the hot summer with aqua-aerobics, water volleyball, swimming, snorkeling, water slides, and more! When you dry off, enjoy arts and crafts, archery, hikes and camp fires. Girls will work toward the Swimming Badge.

Be a Star!: Are you a diva? Do you dream of standing ovations after you sing? How would you like some voice coaching and choreography to help perfect your act - then, head into the recording studio to create a CD with your new friends! Finish out the week with a performance on stage ... then listen to the applause!

Chill Out: No school means lazy days of hanging out with friends, sleeping in, and staying up for those late-night chats and snacks! Enjoy midnight swims, telling stories, and chillin' by the lake. Work on the Red Cross Polar Bear Patch and the Coach Potato Interest Project Award at this laid back session.

DaVinci Girls: Release your imagination and appreciation for the world around you at Camp Agnes Arnold as you explore painting, sculpting, music, science, writing and more! Of course, you'll also want to take time to enjoy a dip in the pool, late-night stargazing, and meeting new friends. Work towards the Artistic Crafts and Inventions and Inquiry interest projects in this session for the Renaissance woman!

Medieval Madness: Step back in time to the Middle Ages! Meet a knight in shining armor, design your own coat of arms, create period jewelry and try your hand at calligraphy. Learn about medieval legends, lore, and facets of everyday life a thousand years ago. Top off the week with a trip to the Medieval Times in Dallas, where girls will enjoy a sumptuous feast and attend a live jousting tournament! When you're not recreating the past, enjoy other camp activities such as swimming, crafts and songs.

Self-Defense: This is an awesome, full on fitness and selfdefense program! Professional instructors teach many techniques by utilizing a variety of martial arts tactics. Practice effective kicking, blocking and striking moves as you increase your personal awareness, reduce your risk and learn avoidance techniques. You'll be amazed how much you can do as your self-confidence soars during this active session of fun and fitness! Round out the week with some other camp activities such as swimming and campfires, and work towards the Your Best Defense Interest Project Award.

X-Treme Wheels: RU ready to skate? Wanna take your biking to the next level? Learn a few tricks and jumps with your bike, board or in-line skates, then learn how to take care of your wheels, including how to select good equipment, and how and when to replace and oil parts as you work towards the Rolling Around Interest Project Award. End the session with a bike trip to Camp Robinwood, followed by a trip to a local skate park, and a drag race on our four-wheel bikes. Road Trip! (Girls must bring their own wrist guards, elbow pads and kneepads. Girls may bring their own skateboard, bicycle and helmet, or use one from camp. Girls may also bring their own in-line skates.)

Program Aide: Wouldn't it be great to inspire Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors? As a Program Aide you will get to plan activities, teach younger girls, and learn the ins and outs of being a leader. Like all positions of authority, being a Program Aide requires special skills. This session offers the Program Aide core training with a variety of specialties such as canoeing, songs and games, or arts and crafts. When you're not busy earning your Program Aid Pin, why not take a jump in the pool or try your hand at archery!

Shutterbugs: Do you want to be a photographer? Forget digital cameras - discover the art of black and white photography! Learn about composition, film exposure, proper negative handling and developing. A photo exhibit will display your work on Friday for all to see. When you're not busy with your camera, you will have time for other activities such as swimming, hiking, or arts and crafts. (Please bring your own 35mm camera. Film will be provided.)

Backpacking: (Two-week session) Want to get away from the heat of another hot Texas summer? Then pack your bags and get ready for some awesome hiking and sightseeing in the southern Rocky Mountains. Campers will be trained in outdoor cooking, camping, hiking skills, basic first aid and safety. Trail Rating: Moderate with some moderately difficult trails. (Girls must be in good physical condition with a sense of adventure and attend a pre-event meeting with their parent/guardian at the Houston Girl Scout Center from 3 - 6 p.m. on May 2, 2010. Girls should bring a comfortable pair of "broken in" hiking boots. Backpacks and tents are supplied.)

Extreme Adventure: For the more adventurous campers - how does hiking, biking, rappelling, rock climbing and caving sound? Spend a few days at Camp Agnes Arnold, then head out into the Texas Hill Country and explore Gorman Cave, rappel Enchanted Rock, hike to see bald eagles and cool off in the waterfalls and springs of Colorado Bend.

Survivor: Test your mettle in the ultimate challenge - what would you do if you were lost alone, in the woods, with just you, your teammates, and no matches? Are you a survivor? If so, come join us for the best challenge yet - and work on the Outdoor Survival Interest Project while you're at it!

Wet 'n' Wilder: (2 week session) Spend a few days at Camp Agnes Arnold brushing up on some basic canoeing and kayaking skills and earning your Red Cross FOC (Fundamentals of Canoeing) certification. Next, jump into a kayak, and head out for some paddling! Finally, head out to Lake Buchanan Adventures! Kayak through incredible 65-foot waterfalls, take a guided boat tour, cool off in the springs of the Colorado River, and go hiking to spot bald eagles. Accommodations will be at a local Girl Scout house. If you've explored every inch of Shadow Lake, and are ready for new adventures, then this is the session for you! (Please submit copies of Red Cross Level 3 swim card and Safe Boating Card with registration. Placement cannot occur until copies of cards have been submitted. Skills will be verified at camp.)

Canoe Aide: Do you love to help teach canoeing to younger girls? Are you FOC Certified? Are you a Program Aide? Spend the week at the dock working with the canoeing program as an aide. You'll even find time to take a break and cool off in the pool! (Girls must have completed the 8th grade, be FOC certified, and completed the Girl Scout Program Aide Core training.)

College Connection: Explore the wonderful world of higher education! Visit several local colleges and universities, eat in the student centers, and visit with Campus Girl Scouts, financial aid admissions staff, and college professors! Take a mock- SAT, find out about financial assistance, and learn tips to help improve your test scores, college applications, and interviews! Learn about sororities, intramurals, and college social life! As if that's not enough, work on the STUDIO 2B Focus Book College 101 while you're at it! Top off the week with an overnight stay in a college dormitory!

Digital Divas: Bring your digital camera to camp and start with the fundamentals of photography! Learn how to frame your perfect photo. Learn how lighting plays a part. Guaranteed to help you take better pictures. Work with our instructor on editing and printing your masterpiece. When you're not preserving your memories, you will be taking a dip in the pool, hanging out with your friends and doing fun arts and crafts.

Sow What?: So when it comes to food, what's really best for people and the planet? Girl Scout Seniors will figure that out as they dig into far-reaching food networks-and leadership, too. You will earn requirements of this Senior Journey including a plan for your Take Action project. You can take a rest stop while on your journey and enjoy a dance class or arts and crafts. Girls who register for this session must attend a precamp meeting at the Houston Girl Scout Center on April 10 from 2-4 p.m. to get started on this journey. (Your Journey book is included in the price.)

Take Action: Is service in your blood? Spend your summer making a difference! Work together as a team to plan and carry out an awesome service project for the community. Girls pick their own project such as building a bridge, sewing blankets for the needy, etc. Then, take a break from earning leadership and service hours to enjoy relaxing at the pool, bicycling, canoeing, or crafts. Girls who register for this session must attend a pre-camp meeting at the Houston Girl Scout Center to determine the service project on April 10, 2010 from 4 - 6 p.m.

Camp Agnes Arnold will be open for a very limited time for this special family resident camping session! Enjoy canoeing, fishing, crafts, archery, songs, and campfires as you spend a few precious moments of summer with your daughter! All meals will be provided, so the only thing you have to worry about cooking are your s'mores! (A parent or guardian must accompany each family. At least one member of the family must be a registered Girl Scout. This session is from Sunday through Tuesday.)

CIT (Counselor-In-Training): (Two-week training, plus one-week internship) After completing the two-week leadership training, girls will intern at the camp of their choice for a week, where CIT's will work directly with younger campers under the supervision of the CIT director and unit leader. (Girls must submit a completed "Girl Application for Leadership Project" and three references from adults who are not family members. The required forms will be sent to each girl in her camp registration confirmation pack. Girls who have already successfully completed the CIT training and would like to return for a second internship should contact the camp director for details.)
