Sea breezes, relaxing on the porch swings, and sailing on the bay are what campers at Camp Casa Mare can expect this summer. This camp located on Galveston Bay is a tropical paradise for ocean lovers and landlubbers alike.

Session Descriptions
All About Me: It's time to relax and pamper yourself at Camp Casa Mare. Massage therapists, make-up artists and yoga instructors will work with you to develop relaxation and breathing techniques and to assist you in creating your own personal style. Try some aromatherapy and make candles to take home with you at the end of the week. Juniors can work on the Fun and Fit, Stress Less and Walking for Fitness badges. Other camp activities are also included throughout the week.

Casa Musical: We're all in this together as you learn about stage makeup, prepare sets, rehearse roles and practice songs and dance moves from your favorite musicals. Offstage, we're breakin' free with activities such as swimming, basketball, and hanging out with new friends. What time is it? Summertime - it's your vacation!

Cheer and Dance: Calling all Dancin' Divas! If you love to cheer and shout, practice new dance routines and move to the groove then this is the perfect session for you. Learn new cheers and create your own moves while working on the Dance Badge. Enjoy a special dance workshop hosted by the Green Starlettes Drill Team. Round out the week with some swimming, archery, or crafts, and finish off with a performance at the all camp program.

Creative Cooking: Ingredients: Step 1: Take a handful of Juniors. Step 2: Add a bundle of mouth-watering, taste-tempting treats. Step 3: Don't forget an enthusiastic, experienced instructor to show you how it's done. Directions: Bring all the steps together and blend for a fabulous cooking class! Cooking time: Allow one week for completion of the Let's Get Cooking Badge.

Fencing: Spend the week learning this fastpaced, exciting sport! As you challenge your opponents, electronic equipment will keep track of who's winning the battle. Professional instructors will teach you the finer points of lunging, footwork and blade work. Try out your new skills in a fencing tournament, and round out the week with other activities like swimming and arts and crafts. All protective equipment and fencing gear will be provided for the session. (Girls must bring tank tops or thin T-shirts, and loose fitting long pants to wear under the fencing jacket.)

Girlzart: Have you always wanted to design your own jewelry, paint a masterpiece, or create a mosaic? Come try your hand at these and more, as you work with artists to let your creativity flow - then put your work on display in an art show! When you're not unleashing your inner artist, relax with other camp activities such as archery or swimming.

Junior Jam: This session is jam packed with a bit of everything for the first time camper! Work toward your Swimming and Sports Sampler Badges, get creative with arts and crafts, participate in the fun of unit and all camp activities and meet new friends while roasting s'mores around the camp fire. This is a great introduction for new campers at Camp Casa Mare.

Junior Olympian: Get ready for the Camp Casa Mare Olympics! Develop personal skills and team work by joining in a variety of water-based and land games throughout the week. With an emphasis on fun and team spirit, girls can sample volleyball, soccer, archery, canoeing, swimming, bicycling, and more as they work towards the Sports Sampler Badge.

On Target: Spend the week at the archery range working with instructors to perfect your stance, your aim, and your shooting! Of course, when you're not at the range, you can cool off with a dip in the pool, work on arts and crafts, or just enjoy the cool bay breeze! Top off the week with an archery tournament. Robin Hood, eat your heart out! Campers will work toward the Council Bull's-eye patch and the Junior Olympic Archers Certificate.

Owl Prowl: Are you a night owl? Sleep late every morning, and explore camp during the dark hours while other campers sleep! Enjoy night swims and visit the galley for some late night activities.

Play by the Bay: Enjoy team sports by the cool bay breeze, freshen up your soccer, basketball, volleyball and softball skills, or enjoy the splash from a game of water-balloon volleyball. Campers will also choose other activities to complete their busy week as they work on the Court Sports, Field Sports, and Sports Sampler badges, and the Bull's-eye Patch.

Soaps and Scents: Have you ever wanted to create your own scented soaps, candles, lotions and bath oils? Ever thought about making your own make-up? Choose the scents and styles that are right for you and shape different candles, soaps, and more! Take home your favorite creations for yourself, or make gift packs for your friends or family - or both! Plus, choose from other camp activities like archery, sports, swimming or games.

Space Out: Grab your gear, and head for the stars in this fun-packed week of adventure! Take a trip to the Challenger Center on a mission to Mars, then head to Space Center Houston and Mission Control! Work with astronomers and astronauts, and find your place in the cosmos! Round out the week with some swimming, crafts and songs!

Water Worx: Cool off this summer while working toward the Water Fun, Water Sports and Swimming badges. Play a game of water volleyball with your team, get in shape with a Tae Bo or aqua - aerobics workout and of course, have plenty of fun splashing in the pool and keeping cool. Campers can also participate in archery, crafts, drama or other camp activities.

Where the Wild Girls Are: Come join other wild nature lovers for a fun week of camp. This session will be full of nature. Take a field trip "In the Wild," complete nature crafts, listen to guest speakers and have fun with exciting environmental activities. You will cap off the week with an outrageous "Wild Things" day where you will be outfitted with crazy animal feet, elf ears and of course a crown so you can be the queen of your own world. Taking a break from the wild side you can also enjoy swimming, yoga and other fun camp activities.

Winter Wonderland: Oh, the weather outside is frightful and hot - but not at Camp Casa Mare! Enjoy a snowball fight, ice skating, hot chocolate, and caroling. Of course, when you're not shivering you can take time for a dip in the pool, crafts, archery, and more!

Chill Out: No school means lazy days of hanging out with friends, sleeping in, and staying up for those late-night chats and snacks! Enjoy late-night swims, telling stories, and chillin' on the porch. Work on the Red Cross Polar Bear Patch and the Coach Potato Interest Project Award at this laid back session.

Dirt and Grime, Grease and Slime: Warning! You will get very dirty, possibly disgustingly filthy, at this session! Be prepared for lots of fun, and lots of showers, as you make human s'mores, participate in the human tie-dye experiment, learn to change the oil and work under the hood of a car, and more! (Bring extra soap ... you'll need it!) Of course, when you're not too slimey, you can also take a dip in the pool, try your hand at some new crafts, play sports, or just relax by the bay.

DIY Designs: Want a clever and unique way to update your look? Why not DIY - Do It Yourself? Learn how to customize clothing, accessories, jewelry, and even your room - without breaking your bank! And of course, you still get to join in the other camp activities like swimming, canoeing, hiking, and campfires.

Program Aide: Wouldn't it be great to inspire Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors? As a Program Aide you will get to plan activities, teach younger girls, and learn the ins and outs of being a leader. Like all positions of authority, being a Program Aide requires special skills. This session offers the Program Aide core training with a variety of specialties such as canoeing, songs and games, or arts and crafts. When you're not busy earning your Program Aid Pin, why not take a jump in the pool or try your hand at archery!

Robotics: Have you ever wanted to build a robot? Discover the science behind moving machines, gears, and motors as you build your own real, working robot! Show off your creation in Camp Casa Mare's Robotics Exhibition, then take your new friend home to amaze your friends and family!

Sports Fan: Can't get enough of sports? Sports Fans will develop personal skills and teamwork by participating in a variety of water-based and land games throughout the week. With an emphasis on fun and team spirit, girls can sample basketball, volleyball, aquaaerobics, soccer and archery. Earn the Council Bull's-eye Patch for archery and work toward the Sports For Life Interest Project Award.

Taste of Sailing: No Sailing Experience Required! If you can't tell the difference between a jib and a jive, this session is for you! This session will introduce you to many aspects of sailing including knot tying, semaphore and nautical terms. Top off the week as you set sail on a sunfish with an experienced skipper! When you're not on the bay, enjoy other traditional camp activities like swimming, arts and crafts or archery. (Please send copies of the Level IV Swim Card with registration. No placement will occur until a copy of the certification is received. Safe boating tests will be administered on site. Participants must be able to pass the safe boating test to continue in the session.)

Ur Space: Learn how to safely create your own webspace and blog. Incorporate digital photography, graphics and more! Top off the week by working with your new network of friends at camp to create a Camp Casa Mare newsletter!

You Can't Do THAT at Camp!: Be prepared to break the rules! Watch movies and stay up late listening to music! Of course, you'll also want to participate in some of the activities you CAN do at camp - like swimming, crafts, and hanging out on the porch swings.

Basic Sailing (RCBS): (2 week session) Do you dream of sailing off into the sunset? Sailing can be exciting, invigorating, relaxing or challenging. Get started by completing the Red Cross Basic Sailing course at Camp Casa Mare! Learn how to rig a sailboat, forecast the weather and sail safely on the open water. That's right - you can learn to sail this summer! (Girls must submit a copy of their Red Cross Level IV Swim Card and Safe Boating Test Card. No placement will occur until a copy of the certification is received. Note: To earn the Red Cross Basic Sailing Certification, girls must successfully complete both the written exam and water requirements.)

Sunfish Mate: (Two-week session) Are you ready for more sailing? Master sailing solo, and work toward your Sunfish Mate and Sailing Fundamentals ratings. When you're not on the water, take some time to enjoy other traditional camp activities. To complete the sailing certifications, girls must earn the required service hours. Certifications will be held with the sailing program until service hours are completed. (Must have Red Cross Level IV swim card; Red Cross Basic Sailing or Small Craft Safety Sailing or GSSJC Seaman rating, and GSSJC Safe Boating Card. Please submit copies of all certifications with your registration. No placement will occur until a copy of the certifications is received.)

Beach Bums: Grab your flip flops and sunscreen - we're headed to the beach! Explore a different beach every day as you work towards the From Shore to Sea Interest Project, then top off the week with a day of wakeboarding and waterskiing!

Sailing Aide: Do you love to help teach sailing to younger girls? Are you at least a Sunfish Mate? Have you completed PA Training? Spend the week on the bay working with the sailing staff as a Program Aide! You'll even find time to take a break and cool off in the pool! (Girls must have completed the 8th grade, be a Sunfish Mate or higher, and completed the Girl Scout Program Aide training.)

SCUBA Diving: Discover a whole new world under the sea, filled with new colors, shapes, textures and creatures. Become a certified SCUBA diver and escape to a peaceful place to renew your energy and excite your senses. This course will give girls an internationally recognized open water SCUBA certification upon completion of the required skills. Study diving physics, physiology, medicine, environment and safety. Train in the classroom, pool, and an offsite openwater environment. All gear is included. (Girls must have a Red Cross Level V Swim Card. Girls must pass both a written and skills test to receive certification. Parents must fill out a separate liability form, included in the confirmation packet. Unfortunately, girls with tubes in their ears or asthma are not eligible for this course.)

Seafarers: (2 week session) Seafarers, sail to your heart's content at Camp Casa Mare! Sail out to enjoy a picnic lunch, then take a break from camp and head to Galveston to visit Moody Gardens and the Strand before returning to camp to continue the tradition of the Seafarers banner! (Girls must have a minimum of a Sunfish Mate rating. A photocopy of your rating must be sent with registration. No placement will occur until a copy of the rating is received.)

Uncovering the Evidence: Do some of your favorite television shows include crime scene tape, dusting for fingerprints and analyzing blood spatter? Do you ever wonder about the science behind forensics or what goes on behind the scenes on forensics shows? Join us for this week of camp to jump into the world of forensics! When you're not investigating crime scenes, you can enjoy traditional camp activities like swimming, archery or yoga.

Lifeguard Training: Lifeguard Training Do you have what it takes to become a lifeguard? If so, you could be on the path to a fabulous job! Trained Red Cross lifeguards are always needed, especially during the summer months. This session focuses on the job of the lifeguard in a swimming pool environment. The purpose of the course is to provide lifeguard candidates with the skills and knowledge necessary to keep the patrons of aquatic facilities safe in and around the water. Girls will learn victim recognition, surveillance, equipment based rescues, spinal injury management, first aid skills, CPR, AED use, alternate airway management, the use of a pocket mask, and how to prevent disease transmission. (Age 15 PRIOR to completion of class. Enrollment in this session does not guarantee that girls will pass the lifeguarding class. In order to pass, girls must score at least an 80% on a written exam, and pass all the skills tests. Girls in this class must be able to swim 550 yards continuously using the front crawl and breast stroke, surface dive to depth of 10 feet, retrieve a 10 lb object, return to surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object. When returning to the starting point girls must hold the 10 lb object with both hands and keep their face above the water.)
