Camp Misty Meadows
Horseback riding is the main attraction at Camp Misty Meadows near Conroe. The Robert and Janice McNair Equestrian Center includes four riding arenas and a herd of 40 horses waiting to be ridden, loved, hugged and groomed by summer campers.
There is a weight limit of 200 pounds for all horse riding sessions.

Session Descriptions
The Mane Event: You can't find a better session for girls to make new friends while also enjoying our horses. Enjoy riding as you start working toward the Just Horsin' Around Try-It. Learn to groom, mount and dismount, and control a horse at a walk. When not at the barn, choose from activities such as archery, hiking, arts and crafts, sports, or dance. A daily dip in the swimming pool will round out the week and keep away the heat! (Girls must be entering the third grade or higher in the fall of 2010 to register for this session. Girls in this session will ride twice, weather permitting.)

All American Girls: Bring your favorite doll with you to camp as you spend the week learning about Kaya, Samantha, Julie, Addie, Kirsten, Kit and more! Play games and make crafts from different periods in history, then top off the week with a visit to the barn to learn about horses - one of Felicity's passions!

Bull's-eye!: Spend the week at the archery range working with instructors to perfect your stance, your aim, and your shooting! Of course, when you're not at the range you can cool off with a dip in the pool, work on arts and crafts, or enjoy a hike in the woods! Top off the week with an archery tournament. Robin Hood, eat your heart out! Campers will earn the Council Bull'seye Patch and the Junior Olympic Archers Certificate.

Equestrian Aides: Do you love to teach horseback riding to younger girls? Do you enjoy helping with "Love, Hug and Groom" sessions? Are you at least a Level 3 SPUR? Then come spend the week at the barn working with the riding staff as an aide! (Girls must have completed the 8th grade, and be at least a Level 3 SPUR.)

Gross Out: Warning! You will get very dirty, possibly disgustingly filthy, at this session! Be prepared for lots of fun, and lots of showers, as you make human s'mores, participate in the human tie-dye experiment, learn to enjoy the smellier side of horse ownership, and more! (Bring extra soap ... you'll need it!) Of course, when you're not too slimey, you can also take a dip in the pool, try your hand at some new crafts, play sports, or go on a hike to the doll house.

Horse Crazed: Are you comfortable riding a horse? Do you already know how to stop, start, and control a horse at a walk and a trot? Then this session is for you! Work towards the Horse Rider Badge as you improve your riding skills, learn to ride at faster gaits, and learn more about how to take care of a horse, including some things to look for when purchasing a horse. Round out the week with a trail ride. When you're not with the horses, wind down with other cool camp activities such as archery and swimming. (Girls must demonstrate good control at a walk to remain in Horse Crazed. Girls in this session will have four riding lessons, weather permitting.)

Misty Magic: Who said you have to "rough it" at camp? Learn about make-up application, skin and nail care, massage therapy, relaxation and yoga as you create your new style. Try some aromatherapy and make candles while working on the Fun and Fit, Stress Less and Walking for Fitness badges. Top off the week with other camp activities such as swimming, crafts, sports or archery.

Pony Tails: If you have never ridden before, or if it's been a long time, Pony Tails is a perfect introductory session! Enjoy riding as you start working towards the Horse Fan Badge. Learn to groom, mount and dismount, control a horse at a walk, and possibly take a trail ride. When not at the barn, choose from activities such as archery, riflery, hiking, arts and crafts, sports, or dance. A daily dip in the swimming pool will round out the week and keep away the heat! (Girls in this session will ride twice, weather permitting.)

Saddle Up: Saddle Up If you've ridden a few times and feel pretty comfortable around horses, you're ready for Saddle Up! Complete the Horse Fan Badge as you learn more about how to take care of a horse, review your riding skills, work on the trot, and go out on the trail (weather permitting). When you're not with the horses, wind down with other cool camp activities such as archery, riflery, and swimming. (Girls in this session must be comfortable around a horse, and feel confident controlling a horse at a walk. Girls will have four riding lessons, weather permitting.)

Babies and Bottles: Trained babysitters are always in demand; come learn how to be prepared for your job! Red Cross Babysitting Training teaches you to handle emergencies, prevent accidents, and care for children using competent babysitting practices. An introduction to basic first aid skills helps ensure that babysitters are better prepared for any emergency. Girls will also learn job hunting skills, including creating a resume! Girls will earn the Red Cross Babysitters Certificate and work towards the Child Care Interest Project Award. Swimming, crafts, and sports activities round out the week. (Girls must be at least 11 years old by the end of the session. Please bring a baby doll or stuffed animal to practice feeding and diapering.)

Campin' Cowgirls: Do you love horses? Do you love camping? Well why not combine the two? Spend a few days at Camp Misty Meadows working on your horseback riding and outdoor skills, then put it all to good use on an overnight trail ride! When you're not at the barn, take a dip in the pool or join in other camp activities such as archery, sports or sign language. (Girls must be able to control a horse at a walk to remain in this session.)

Mystic Idol: So you think you've got what it takes to be a star? Come show us what you've got! In this session, explore singing, dancing stage makeup and acting. At the end of the session, compete in the Mystic Idol competition where we'll crown winners of our competition in each category.

Horse Connection: (9-day session) If you love horses, dance, gymnastics and fun, this session is for you! Spend the mornings at the barn. Improve your coordination, balance, strength, and creativity while working in harmony with a horse. After 10 days at camp learning the basics, amaze your friends and family at a horse show! (Girls must be comfortable around horses.)

Chillout: Start off by staying up late and sleeping in every morning. Then, join the ultimate girl planning board as you map out a week to remember! Choose from everything the camp has to offer, including swimming, movies, karaoke, dance, archery, riflery, yoga, cooking, and cool crafts you'll actually want and use! Or come up with your own new, fun ideas to try out - like oatmeal rugby! Make your mark on the world by completing a service project for breast cancer patients, and top off the week with a late-night "Pink Party" and costume party - complete with a chocolate fountain - no Brownies allowed! All planned By Girls, For Girls! This week, anything goes!

Digital Divas: Bring your digital camera to camp and start with the fundamentals of photography! Learn how to frame your perfect photo. Learn how lighting plays a part. Guaranteed to help you take better pictures. Work with our instructor on editing and printing your masterpiece. When you're not preserving your memories, you will be taking a dip in the pool, hanging out with your friends and doing fun arts and crafts.

High Adventure: Are you ready for the challenge? Test your strength on the 50-foot tower or climbing wall, experience the rush of leaping off the pamper pole or shooting down the zip line. Build your confidence and trust working with teammates on the low elements course or balance yourself as you glide across the cat walks. Girls will also choose other camp activities to round out this exciting week as they work on the High Adventure Interest Project.

Home On The Range: Brush up on your riding skills at camp before hitting the road to a dude ranch in the Texas hill country. While at the ranch, you will enjoy trail rides, swimming, chuck wagon and home cooked meals, and western style entertainment. (260 pound weight limit)

Horse Whisperers: (10-day session) Do you dream of owning your own horse? Work with equestrian professionals to learn the basics of horse management and horse training. When you're in the saddle, practice drill patterns, pre-jump exercises, obstacle courses and vaulting. English, Western and Bareback riding will be covered, as well as the opportunity to go out on the trail. At the end of the session, try for your CHA rider certification and wow your family at a horse show! (Girls must demonstrate control at a trot to remain in this session. Girls in this session will have at least seven riding lessons, weather permitting.) Note: Starts July 14

SPURS Training: Spend the week at camp learning the theory and hands-on skills needed to join the SPURS (Super People Using Riding Skills) program at Camp Misty Meadows. When you're not busy with the horses, complete the Girl Scout Program Aide Core Training. After attending this session, you will receive your Program Aide Patch and Level One SPURS scarf, and will be ready to work with the weekend riding program! You will also have some time to enjoy other camp activities such as a dip in the pool or making crafts, or learn riflery.
